Maya Angelou PTO Meeting minutes 9/13/2016

September 13, 2016. PTO meeting minutes

Maya Angelou Elementary
September 14, 2016

1.  Budget
-Treasurer, Andrea Hayes went over our budget report for the 2016-2017 school  year.
                -Projected 38K income.
-No teacher requests made this month.
2. Box tops
-New teacher incentives this year.  The teacher will get a $50 voucher for every $50 in box tops their classroom brings in. Every 3 months, teachers will get their earned vouchers.
-For the months of September and October, for every 10 box tops a student brings in they get an entry into a drawing to win a tablet.
-There is a new Box Top for Education app that allows you to earn more box top credits for your box tops. By photographing your receipt in the app, you get between 1-4 more box top credits along with the one you physically get on the packaging. Please try to remember to download this on your phone if you are a box top collector.
3. VIP and VIP to Go
-Angie Barcomb presented the VIP program. Every Wednesday from 9-11, parents are invited to help stuff the Wednesday envelopes for the teachers and do other requested work from teachers. They meet in the cafeteria. Staying the entire two hours is not required. If you only have 15 or 20 minutes to spare, please come. It will be so appreciated. Young children are welcome provided they are somewhat quiet as they could be a distraction to students.
-Jen Johnson is heading the VIP to Go program. For parents that want to help out but are unable to come to the school, you may pick up projects from Jen outside the school on Wednesday morning by the drop off zone.
-October 4th at 8:30am will be the first ATP meeting. Everyone is welcome. ATP puts on the curriculum based Monster Math Night. They will be doing the trunk or treat again this year so they will be looking for parents with decorated trunks to participate in handing out candy. They are looking for an older sports group/organization or club to man the trunks so the parents of the trunks don’t have to stay by the cars and pass out candy and will be able to participate with their children.
4. Maya Color Run
-Just started a Facebook ad campaign to help promote the event. The Color Run and Carnival will take place on Saturday, October 15. Race begins at 11am.
-Donations/registrations can be made online at https://mayacolorrun.com/
-Still looking for sponsors. Let PTO know If you know of a business or organization that may want to make a donation or to be involved in the carnival.
-If we make 20K in donations the school will earn a dance.
5. Fall Craft Show
-The craft show is completely booked and we are currently looking into the possibility of adding more booths around the school to accommodate the 15 vendors that are still on the wait list. The craft show has already earned $2,228.48 and is hoping to make at least $5K
-Set up will be the night before, November 4th from 4-7. Volunteers will be needed for this to measure and mark out the booth slots. Volunteers will also be needed on the day of the event to work at the entry booth.
6. Maya Market
-Every Friday in front of the school, students may purchase things from the school store. It was decided that it will only sell non-food items. Candy and chips that were purchased prior to the meeting will be sold during color run carnival or given out as box top rewards.
